Mrs. Verna Humphrey-Grimes, a native of Fayette, Mississippi, is Assistant Principal of A. W. Watson Elementary School in the Claiborne County School District.

Verna has been employed in CCSD for ten years and has effectively served in various capacities. She has served as: Assistant Principal, Behavior Interventionist, Literacy Coach, and ELA Instructor. During her previous tenure with the Jefferson County School District, she was named America's Choice Model Teacher for ELA Instruction. Before she joined the JCSD, Verna gained career experience and insight from her work with the at-risk population, as a Youth Agent with Alcorn Cooperative Extension Program, as a Teacher/Youth Counselor at the Juvenile Rehabilitation Facility located in Brookhaven, Mississippi, and as an Instructor at the Lamar Alternative Center in Rosenberg, Texas. Her love for children is a driving factor that propels her determination and commitment to ensure that all children are provided the opportunity to acquire a high, quality education in a safe, conducive, and resourceful environment for learning on a daily basis.

Verna holds degrees from the University of Mississippi (B.A. Liberal Arts-Psychology) and Alcorn State University (M.S. Secondary Education-Educational Administration), respectively. She is also the dedicated mother of two brilliant and talented young ladies: Vernecia and Elisa.
